After getting a little home décor boost by having the lovely Emma of Life at the Little Wood pick up on my idea for a Happiness Shelf (tm 😉 ) and spread the word, I have become slightly obsessed with home improvement and decided to join in Emma’s obsession by getting myself a copy of Ideal Home magazine and then going a bit more down market with Your Home (I was lured in by the promise of a tutorial on how to put up a floating shelf!).
I’d watched the first episode of Catastrophe a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it but I was at a loose end last Friday and returned to slightly obsessively watch the next five episodes back to back. It’s really funny – the main characters are likeable and relatable. As a mum you can only look on with a certain amount of pity for what is about to happen to their lives 😉
This is a bit of a cheat as I just haven’t really listened to anything particularly memorable this week (other than my five year old singing his little made up stream of consciousness songs in the car which really makes me smile!). Last week I realised that I didn’t have to listen to some dodgy Radio 4 play while I did the cleaning because there is such a thing as podcasts now which means you have a huge range of options. I chose an R4 Friday night comedy or news quiz thing hosted by Sandi Toksvig. I think it’s actually funnier than Have I Got News For You possibly because I just like Jeremy Hardy..
I really have nothing to report on this front as I haven’t been able to dig out sandals and sunglasses as one might have hoped. I did arrive back at my parents house on Sunday after a quick trip to the petrol station (I know, steady on with these crazy child free outings!) to discover JJ dressed as a cowboy and EJ in nappy, t-shirt & construction helmet (which he then literally insisted on wearing non stop – even to bed).
No cake this week! Which is probably just as well. What I have done is make – over our master bedroom. As I mentioned above, I have become a bit obsessed with home décor recently and I was dying to get some shelves up this week. I was all ready to paint over a wall and learn how to get a shelf up (DIY is not a strong point in our house!) but after umming & erring over a wall colour / design and having no power tools and zero confidence in my abilities I gave up on that ambition and instead opted to buy a few little accessories to jazz the place up with about 95 per cent less effort on my part! I’m really pleased with how it looks now and I’m even planning to write a dedicated post focusing on budget ideas to improve your living space.
I do believe I have seen some leaves starting to come out on the trees – our magnolia even has fuzzy buds! Spring is finally starting to look like a reality which tends to fill me with ideas and ambitions. Can you believe it’s literally two weeks to Good Friday and the Easter holidays? We have finally booked a little family holiday for the second week which can’t come soon enough frankly – it feels like we have not had so much as a day out for months. Happy Weekend Little Loves!
